A new challenge starts today at Ally's Angels and the theme is anything goes. I've made this black and yellow masculine card with lots of cogs. 

I started by making my background for the cogs. I cut a panel of watercolor paper and colored it with distress oxide squeezed lemonade. I then used the 3D embossing folder mechanics and distress crayon black sooth. I finished by cover the whole piece with crackle glaze and when completely dry some more black soot crayon.

I made the two horizontal black panels by using watercolor paper and black gesso, sanding the whole surface and then put a mix of grit paste and black gesso on top for texture. Just love the matte look.

I die cut the pipes, cogs and viewer in chipboard using the pipeline, gadget gears, industrial and voltage dies from Tim Holtz. All the black pieces are made the same way as my black horizontal panels above and I made a few pieces yellow using white gesso, texture paste, oxide spray squeezed lemonade and then finished with some black sooth crayon on top.

I colored watercolor paper with distress oxide squeezed lemonade and stamped the hat and the collar from the stamp set distinguished in black using Archival ink and then fussy cut.

Metal embellishments are idea-ology except maybe the metal knob placed in the middle of the small cog. I think it's from Finnabair but I'm not sure. I totally love the new TH idea-ology hardware heads, I use them everywhere, lol. The quote chip limited edition is also TH and it's colored with some oxide spray squeezed lemonade.

The panels behind my 3D embossed background are two black ones, both made with watercolor paper and black gesso then sanded. Then of course I can't do without a layer made of corrugated cardboard.  It's made yellow with white gesso and oxide spray squeezed lemonade. When it's wet from the gesso I first flatten and then curl the edges some before spraying it with oxide spray. The crackled panel is made with watercolor paper, gesso, white crackle paint, distress oxide squeezed lemonade and then some distress crayon black soot.

I'm on my summer vacation and at the moment visiting the beautiful country of Norway. The card I’m showing today is for a friend who loves to spend time in his garage. He loves old cars and he owns an absolutely gorgeous hotrod from 1933 so my plan was to make a garage themed card for his Birthday.

It's also my design team project for Ally's Angels and the new challenge starting today. The theme is anything goes. There is a nice prize for the winner and the challenge runs for a month so you have plenty of time to enter.

I started by making the frame. I used one of the baseboard frames from Tim Holtz (TH) and covered it with gesso and when dry with white crackle paint. I die cut the small tag in watercolor paper, the pediment and the viewer in chipboard and treated them the same way as the frame. I then did the same way with the etcetera trims here used as a shelf below the frame. When completely dry I used just a little distress crayon hickory smoke and some water to make the crackles more visible.

I embossed and fussy cut one of the stamps from the TH stamp set road trip to use as a background inside the frame. I glued the viewer together with a hardware head in the middle of the stamp and glued it to the back of the frame. I also glued the tag in place on the side and let two charms hang from it with help of a jump ring.

All brown panels are made with watercolor paper (300g) and distress oxide sprays vintage photo, walnut stain and pumic stone. The edges are sanded. I made white panels to put behind each brown panel. I used two stencils from TH and one from Andy Skinner (oil). I embossed the tire tracks in white, it's also from the road trip stamp set. The oil drops are die cut in chipboard using the TH pipeline die and colored with distress inks ground espresso and black sooth.

When I had glued all my panels together I put the frame in place and the pediment on top. I then glued the etcetera trims just below the frame. Now I could start to decorate. I used two letters from idea-ology letterpress for Asbjorn's initials.  

I've used a lot of TH idea-ology like the stars, hardware heads, buckle, mini hardware pull, faucet knob and a paper doll. These are all favorites of mine and frequently used in my projects. I dig deep in my stash and found some other items to go with my project: screw, bulb, nut and a coil spring. I used white gesso to make them look distressed and go with my project. 

The car is from the TH stamp set elements of time and embossed in the colour cappuccino from Sparkle N Sprinkle. The car is in three layers. Beside the embossed one I stamped two more and fussy cut and glued them all together to get a thicker piece. It's then glued with 3d cushions. 

The base is made using the same watercolor paper as my panels and it's colored with distress oxide sprays both inside and on the back side.

Happy Birthday, Dad!

My dad's Birthday is coming up soon so I've made this card for him. It's also my design team project for this month challenge at Ally's Angels the theme is anything goes. 

I started by making a background using watercolor paper and distress oxide sprays vintage photo, walnut stain and squeezed lemonade. I used distress ink black soot to ink the edges before sanding them. I used the mixed media die set 3 from Tim Holtz to make a brick stencil and then used it together with opaque texture paste from Ranger. I let the paste soak up some of the oxide spray colors from the background and then added distress oxide rusty hinge, ground espresso and black soot. When completely dry I sanded lightly on top.

I used Archival ink black and stamps from the distinguished and #hastags sets to stamp onto my background. I glued one of the idea-ology mini hardware pulls together with two hardware heads on top of the left hand side and colored it with some black gesso.

I die cut the pipes in chipboard using the pipeline die from Tim Holtz and used distress oxides vintage photo, walnut stain and squeezed lemonade. I then added some grit paste mixed with distress paint black soot on top. I inked the edges and the grit paste using distress ink black soot and then sanded the edges. The wheel and other black chipboard details are colored with black gesso then sanded.

I die cut the voltage die in watercolor paper and colored it the same way as I did my background. I used distress ink black soot to ink the edges and then sanded them. I stamped the number scale from the professor stamp set with archival ink black.

I colored the tag the same way as my background and I die cut 'DAD' in chipboard using the deco die and covered the letters completely in black gesso then sanded them. I glued four idea-logy hardware heads, one on each corner. The text is from the distinguished stamp set. I finished by cutting a short piece of a ball chain and added it to the tag.

To create the small heart I used the faceted heart die from Tim Holtz. I used watercolor paper and colored with distress oxide sprays squeezed lemonade and a touch of vintage photo. The edges are inked in black soot. I manage to put a jump ring on the top of the heart so I could use a swivel clasp to hang the heart from the pipe. I attached a typed token and a story stick metal embellishments to the chain.

The base of my card is kraft and I then have a panel I created using watercolor paper and distress paints, stencils and crackle glaze and on top of that a panel with corrugated cardboard covered in clear gesso and then colored with distress ink black soot. My oxide spray background is glued on top of the corrugated cardboard.

This is my design team project for this month challenge at Ally's Angels with the theme anything goes. It's a birthday card with lots of Tim Holtz (TH) products.

I started by covering a baseboard frame from TH completely in black gesso and then sanded it. I made a background for the frame using watercolor paper and distress oxides. I then run it through my cuttlebug using Tim Holtz 3D impresslits foundry (a favorite) and then finished it by using distress crayons in rusty hinge, iced spruced and black sooth.

I then die cut the big pocket watch frame in chipboard and covered it completely in black gesso and sanded the edges. I die cut steampunk parts also in chipboard and covered the smaller parts in black gesso and the big frame in distress paint tarnished brass and sanded all the edges. To take away a bit of the bright gold of the tarnished brass I used distress ink and crayons in black sooth. The clock is made with a stamp from the TH set curiosities (CMS104), watercolor paper and distress oxides and crayons. I used a game spinner and one of the hardware heads from TH for the center of the clock. I used 3d tape and glue to mount the frame, oxide background and the die cuts together.

The butterflies are made with the TH die and matching embossing folder butterfly duo then colored using oxides in vintage photo, cracked pistachio and fired brick. I then used distress paint tarnished brass, distress ink/crayons in black sooth and put a story stick on top. 

All metal decorations used are from TH and either colored with distress paint tarnished brass and crayons black sooth or with just black gesso (the stars and the game spinner). The happy birthday sentiment is from the TH set crazy talk (CMS236) embossed in frayed burlap on watercolor paper covered in black gesso. I so like the matte surface that I get using black gesso. I also like sanding it to get a more distressed look. 

I die cut the mini clock key in chipboard and covered it in distress paint tarnished brass and then sanded the edges and used some distress ink and crayons in black soot on top. The text stamp on the side is from the TH stamp set correspondence (CMS225) and embossed in black. Stars covered with black gesso. Adornments foundry and hardware heads on the bottom of the frame.

I've used black cardstock for the base and the brown background paper is from TH paper stash collage and the text stamps 'it's a party' and 'it's your birthday' are both from the TH set crazy talk (CMS236) embossed in black. Ball chain and typed token on the top of the right hand side colored with distress paint tarnished brass and distress crayon black soot.

My next layer is corrugated cardboard with distress paint tarnished brass and when completely dry I used quite a lot of distress ink/crayons in black soot on top. I then glued the baseboard frame included the oxide background on top of the corrugated cardboard and finished by adding die cuts and decorations.

Birthday card for Gunnar

Time again for a new challenge at Ally's Angels and the theme anything goes. My DT work is this Birthday card made for our friend Gunnar using a lot of Tim Holtz goodies and one of my favorite Seth Apter die. The card is quite large, approx 15x20 cm/6x8 inches.

My card consists of 5 layers and the base. Two made of corrugated paper and three made of watercolor paper with distress oxides and/or fluid acrylic paints and crackle glaze or crackle paint. The base is made of watercolor paper and colored with distress oxides both inside and out.

I've used my sewing machine.

Text stamps and star stamp from Tim Holtz

I used the pocket watch frame die, distress oxides and then weathered wood crackle medium and crackle glaze. The decoration you can see at the corner on the right hand side of the dark brown panel is recycled from a studded tire from a car. The chipboard piece at the top I made matte black using black gesso then sanded the edges and I've used label letters to write Gunnar inside.

I die cut the middle part of my Seth Apter die Spokes five times and glued them together, applied a layer of gesso and then texture paste from Ranger and fluid acrylic paints using my fingers at first and then a small brush for details.

To create the dark brown panel I started with watercolor paper and distress oxides. I then used the TH embossing folder mechanics more oxides and then weathered wood crackle medium and crackle glaze from DecoArt. I finished by applying one layer of black acrylic paint then rubbed off with cloth and stamped the larger version of the stamp I used for the tag but in yellow.

Paper doll and metall decorations from Tim Holtz. I applied fluid acrylic paint on the stars and let dry completely and then finished with a touch of distress crayon black sooth. The paper doll got some colour with distress marker antique linen and scattered straw.

The light yellow panel is made with watercolor paper, gesso, white crackle paint and fluid acrylic paints and then distress crayons. The numbers at the bottom are made with one of TH mixed media die sets and texture paste from Ranger mixed with fluid acrylic paints in raw umber and black. 

The wooden letterpress numbers I used for 50 are from TH and a favorite of mine. They are part of a complete alphabet and number set. I've had them for a long time but never used any of them because I like them so much and don't want to separate from them, lol. I think Gunnar doesn't know how lucky he is getting these on his card, lol.

This is the inside of my card. I started with watercolor paper and used my distress oxides to create the background. I then added stamps and used the mixed media die 6 set, texture paste and acrylic paints to create the hand on the left hand side. 

On the other page I started with and unknown stencil from stash and then stamped with TH stamps to create like a frame around my corrugated paper. I die cut the rectangle (TH die 662694) in watercolor paper and used my distress oxides. I then decorated with film strip ribbon, stamps, tickets (CMS337 and ticket booth die) and metal decorations. Finished with the chip quote enjoy the journey. 

A close up of the inside. I used the TH alphabet die word play to cut out 50 and treated them the same way as the Seth Apter spokes die cut above using texture paste and fluid acrylic paints. On the empty space beneath #happybirthday we wrote our Birthday greetings to Gunnar.

Etcetera tag with Tim Holtz goodies

Hello and welcome, hope you are well.

Spring has finally arrived and it feels good. I had some time to create so decided to use the etcetera tag and some other goodies from Tim Holtz.

I started by applying a layer of gesso and when dried I applied crackle paint and used my distress stain in walnut stain and some oxides followed by a layer of antiquing cream from DecoArt. I then used distress crayons in black sooth and some distress ink walnut stain.

Here a close up of the crackles. Stencil used here is 'THS051 industrial' and idea-ology metal decorations from Tim Holtz. 

The tag is made with watercolor paper and distress inks and oxides, I then stamped randomly using background stamps and then used 3D impresslits foundry and some more distress oxides. Then embossed the numbers using WOW embossing powder. Behind the tag I put some corrugated paper.

Tickets made with stamps and matching die 'ticket booth' and also the mini clipboard top is die cut in watercolor paper colored using distress inks and oxides. The stamp 'handle with care' is from the set correspondence.

Paper doll from Tim Holtz and behind him I have used a stamp from the new set 'the professor' stamped in black colored using distress oxide peacock feathers and walnut stain then fussy cut.

A canvas made for a dental practice

I'm back with a canvas as my DT work for this month challenge at Ally's Angels. The theme is anything goes.

I had a lot of fun creating this piece which again is dental related, the same as a card I posted earlier. As I work at a dental practice and my colleagues at another dental practice we collaborate with are celebrating 15 years in the business I wanted to make them a canvas to honor this occasion.

I asked my boss if I could use some retired dental instruments from work. I also wanted a tooth on my canvas so my hubby made one out of balsa wood (just the crown) and we found a big screw in our basement which we used to make this look like a dental implant with a dental crown on top. Hope this doesn't scare you too much....

I've tried to make all those scary instruments look less scary by adding lots of flowers, butterflies and other decorations, so I hope you like it despite all the scary stuff. 

I used one of my number stencils in the center of my canvas with Rangers opaque texture paste and then corrugated cardboard to make two panels, one on each side. I then applied some Finnabair graphite texture paste randomly on top. Metal decorations from Finnabair, retired dental instruments from work, an old tooth brush and some scrap metal and other decorations from stash. Cotton lace on the edges. Then covered everything with black gesso and then some metallic acrylic paint in gold to highlight details.

 This toothbrush really has seen its best days, lol. My hubby has used it to clean his radio controlled cars from mudd and oil...
